rae Micro-unit

Our latest generation has been dubbed the subscription generation. We are here to bring the evolution of housing to the forefront in order to meet the needs of this generation.

The housing we see today is not designed for this up and coming generation. The traditional model of a 3 bedroom home was intended for a family. It was not intended as a functional space to be shared amongst 3 strangers.

In the late 1800s, architect, Louis Sullivan, coined the maxim, Form follows function. As communities grew and cities expanded, somewhere along the line this principal became lost. At St. George & Associates, what we are setting out to do is resurrect this principal, where design is dictated out of necessity.

The micro-unit is created to be a functional space for an individual in today’s workspace. Offering them a sense of having a place of their own without having to share a bathroom. It offers them that piece of dignity, to feel comfortable within their own dwellings.

One of the primary goals that the micro-unit seeks to address is our carbon footprint on the environment. With units coming fully furnished, we take a preventative approach to wasteful furniture discarding as well as the need for pollution emitting moving trucks and vehicles. This new generation holds a high regard for environmental impact, with a very low percentage owning cars or to that matter very few possessions if any. Further this newer generation really doesn’t look to marriage until their mid 40s and choose to forge the vicissitudes of life on their own. One might note being in central California that having a car is essential, however this subscription generation is also moving rapidly into convenience ordering such as grocery delivery. We will be providing bicycles and we are also considering a zip car vehicle to be shared amongst micro-unit occupants.

We are looking to construct these micro-units not for us, but for it’s occupants. We need their input. With the use of surveys and data analytics the personal information is not for collecting but rather for implementing. We are data gathering to personalize. Applicants will be asked to provide their input so that we may collaborate with them on what they’d like to see. As an example, a kitchen library common space area could be implemented for residents to check-out seldom used appliances.

As the need for today’s generation and workforce housing needs have evolved, we want to meet those needs. We want to design what is useful, not wasteful.

rae campus

RAE stands for Research, Artistry, and Entrepreneurship. This is a place where one can plant their seeds of passion and have their ideas come to fruition. Whether you’re formulating the next probiotic corn chip or designing the next generation micro-chip to power the world, RAE will have a place for you.

Through the backing of developer St. George and Associates, we have been given the opportunity to have a once thought-up dream center for such work to take place… to become a reality. Jointly, RAE and St. George will also be providing venture capital consideration for those who would like to seek assistance in kick-starting their dream.

Safety and Security will be paramount at RAE. Rest assured when you close up for the night, your work is safe, and more importantly you are safe. Not only will the RAE facilities be equipped with an ADT alarm response system, each unit will have RING CENTRAL systems installed to monitor and record all motion activity within your space.

RAE not only is a place for those ready to build their dreams, it is also a place for local youth to draw inspiration. Santa Barbara Unified School District requires 60 hours of volunteering. The RAE center will explore options for high school students to come and volunteer across various verticals so that students might observe and realize the benefits that studying and hard works pays off.

While RAE strives and encourages for there to be fierce competition in making your product the very best, we also believe in a philosophy of crossing the finish line together. Here at RAE, individuals from all walks and skill-sets can meet on a monthly basis, to discuss what works and what doesn’t. An artist or designer might be able to advise a start-up firm that deals with 3D printing of parts, and vice versa. This is a space for collaboration where great minds help feed and build up one another.

What we are looking at here is an experiment. An experiment built from the ground up to house all other experiments. We want to achieve this together, where we are in lock-step… RAE giving you the foundational 4 walls you need, you giving the world your gift of brilliance.
